All you know about your opponent when you’re kicking off is if their playing a Strength or Agility team: it doesn’t matter which we deal with first.Īstute Coaches will note by the end of this section that in Defence against Stronger teams the opposing team’s speed dictates your set-up whereas in the Defence against Agility teams your speed should dictate your set-up. We’ll start by looking at defensive set-ups after all games are won by your defence (or so they tell me). But for now all you need to know is that we’ll be broadly stereotyping to avoid an article which will take you a day to read and a lifetime to master. These teams are the easiest to start playing with, but will give you little long-term challenge compared to one of the extreme teams. Of course this is a liberal application of such stereotypes and some teams fall neatly between the two. They can handle the ball well and generally run rings around their opponents, but suffer in the aforementioned games of attrition relying to score more in the first half than the Strength team can in the second. Agility teams on the other hand rely upon their ball moving abilities to out-score their opponents. Strength teams such as Orcs or Chaos are renowned for their brutal approach to the game (specific race tactics are discussed in the Team Playbook) which is characterised by a slow moving offence which will gain the upper hand in the second half of the game through weight of numbers due to a grinding attrition in the first half. These styles are loosely grouped into the following two areas: Strength and Agility. Both of these split again when discussing general tactics to be used against certain styles of play which your opponent will attempt. The text below is split into two main areas: Offence and Defence. If you’re a new Coach you’ll find the word ‘should’ gains more meaning as you get into the game: experienced Coaches know what I’m talking about. This should be of use to you unless you fall into the last case the Lateral Plays page is probably more your style – here we’ll see basic kick-off Offensive and Defensive setups and take you through a turn-by-turn guide on how the play should progress. "We are Orcs and dat's no lie / We'll make yoo scream an' make yoo cry / We'll pull yore hair an pinch yore thigh / An' if dat doant work we'll gouge yore eye! / Givva "G", givva "O", givva "W", givva J.( The following may be of use to you in a few ways: you’re a beginning Coach you want to learn some new plays or you want to see if your favourite cunning plays are original after all. His leadership inspires the team into developing more adaptable tactics and delivering injuries to the other team. One of the leading orc blitzers in the game, Varag Ghoul-Chewer takes over as captain of the Gouged Eye. The next year, the Gouged Eye made it to the final but lost to the Vynheim Valkyries. ![]() The Gouged Eye's success continued, and in 2473, the squad took the Blood Bowl Championship (XIII) again against the Dwarf Warhammerers. During Blood Bowl IV, in 2464, the Gouged Eye beat the Dwarf Giants at Middenheim Stadium, due in part to the captaincy of Hurk Verminsmasher, and the thrice-scorer Bolg Stonemangle, whose nickname after the game became "Dwarfmangle." By 2464, their first win of the Blood Bowl Championship, the Gouged Eye had won the Chaos Cup eight times, and were AFC champions twice. The Gouged Eye would achieve resounding success in the following years. Thousands of recruits showed up for tryouts and so the Gouged Eye had a strong and varied pool of talent to draw from. The tribal emperor gave an option in 2431 to his orcs: join the army or join the team. While the training under Vinny Gloam was helping tactics, recruitment to play became the focus of owner Gobsuck Skullcrush XI. Through whatever means the Gouged Eye employed, be it violence or gold, Vinny helps to develop their passing game to become a more well-rounded squad. Therefore, the team managed to kidnap a passing expert, Vinny Gloam, from a late night training session with the Middenheim Marauders. īy 2429, the Gouged Eye, to their credit, did not falter in their sights of becoming the best team in Blood Bowl, despite their many losses. This would lead the team to win only one game of their first seventy-two. The coach, due to his specialty of the rushing game, was not able to flesh out the passing portion for the Gouged Eye. This peaked the tribe's interest so they kidnapped a coach after a successful raid and formed their team. The Gouged Eye were told of Blood Bowl by slaves gained through raiding parties. 1.1.2 2431 - Present: Eyes on the Prizeįranchise History Gouged Eye (2403 - present) 2403 - 2430: Kidnapping for Help. ![]()
